Too Overstuffed to be “Non-Slip”,
The Amazon Basics GPS Dashboard Mount is a fine (but common) design, with a decently grippy non-slip bottom surface and a good smooth landing surface for the GPS suction mount. It is the stuffing, or in my case over-stuffing, that is the problem. There is so much stuffing material inside that it puffs out the bottom surface so as to greatly reduce the amount of grippy material that actually touches the dashboard, and at the same time making the shape nearly rigid so that it has problems conforming to the subtle curves of most dashes.
If only they had shown restraint with the last 1/4th of the stuffing.
So, it rides well until you start taking your curves serious – such as a mountain highway or racing to make a left-turn light. Then you are grabbing for a dash-projectile… But, even then, you don’t have to worry about the GPS unit suction cup coming off the large flat smooth mounting surface. You only have to catch the all-in-one piece as it flies across the dash.

|Works Just as Advertised for Me,

We just came back from a thousand mile (each way) road trip. As I had anticipated, the GPS unit and the dashboard mount had not moved at all from their location for the duration of the trip. This mount keeps performing as advertised, at least for my particular setup.

Over the years I have become somewhat addicted to my GPS navigator. I like to use it even when I am completely familiar with the roads that I am traveling as it provides me with the driving information that can be very useful (such as the real-time driving conditions and traffic). However, keeping a GPS attached to your windshield is a thief-magnet, and yet taking it off the windshield all the time is a bit of a hassle. The dashboard mount is intended to deal with those issues. I’ve just got this Amazon Basics dashboard mount, and so far it has worked for me just as advertised.
After reading the earlier reviews, I was a bit concerned that this dashboard mount would not rest securely on my dashboard. I use it with Garmin Nuvi GPS navigator and I drive Honda Civic. Honda’s dashboard is fairly smooth, so I was concerned that my GPS navigator would fly off every time I accelerate or decelerate. However, after driving for a few days I am happy to report that during all of the driving it has not moved an inch. I suspect that on a curvier dashboard there would be some problems with stability, but I wouldn’t be able to tell this unless I tried driving in a different car.
The mount is also very well designed and built. It doesn’t feel cheap, and yet it is very competitively priced. Overall I am very satisfied with this dashboard mount.

|Non-slip material doesn’t work,
The suction cup of my car mount sticks to the plastic surface perfectly. But the bottom of the mount’s surface is supposed to be a non-slip material. It is nothing of the sort. I placed it on a recently cleaned portion of my dash and it immediately slipped towards the back of the dash. I tried to reposition it, and it just wouldn’t stay put. If I had tried driving with it, inertia would have thrown it off the dash into my lap. Very disappointed and will be returning this product.
